Bill Sanderson grew up in Utica, New York, in a house with music in it: his mother taught piano. As a teenager he studied guitar with Carman Caramonica, and later classical pieces at the Crane School of Music.
In 2003 he moved to Virginia and taught at Orange Music in Orange County. In 2009 he opened B# Music in Charlottesville. The name is meant literally: be sharp — mentally.
A huge repertoire
Bill has played music most of his life, and you can hear it in what he teaches: acoustic, electric and bass guitar, piano and keyboards, mandolin, banjo, ukulele and songwriting, from classical and jazz to blues, folk, rock and many kinds of metal. You might also catch him at a local open mic.
Always a student
He still takes lessons himself. It explains a lot about how patient he is with his own students — he knows exactly what it's like on the other side of the music stand.
Part of the community
When he isn't teaching, Bill volunteers at the Charlottesville-Albemarle SPCA.
